Security Training
The
CS/FBI Computer Crime and Security Survey 2002 found that 90
percent of respondents (primarily large corporations and government
agencies) detected computer security breaches. Of that group, 43 percent
were able to quantify a total of $455,848,000 in financial losses.
The
importance of internal security policies, on security training for
employees, and on social awareness cannot be over emphasized.
IT managers reading these stories probably roll their eyes and think,
"Oh no, not again." How much security common sense do your end
users have ? If an end user doesn't realize you have to remove a mouse from
its packaging in order to use it, can you realistically expect him or her to
realize that scribbling a password on a Post-It note tacked to a computer
monitor is not what you meant by "safe-keeping?"
Along
with the IT security technology components and policies, comes user
education. NetUnity strongly recommend giving security awareness programs to
your user community. The goals of these security awareness programs are to
combat "social engineering", secure the desktop, improve the
password strength of user accounts, reduce virus infection, and emphasize
the need to have limited access. Your future plans for these security
awareness programs are to formalise them as part of new employee training
and to have an interactive presentation on the Intranet.
NetUnity focus has always been to produce bespoke
Security programs for end-user awareness tailored to individual clients
circumstances.
